Sursum Corda! A Success

Participants Enthusiastic

Chicago, Illinois: August 29, 1999;
For Immediate Release:

Tired, ecstatic, and sad to leave new friends, participants in the historic first Old Catholic Agape, Sursum Corda! dispersed to their homes, with promises to return next year.

The Conferences was a success in terms of contacts, friendliness, and professional content delivered -- exactly what had been planned, according to the Program Chairman, Jeff Duntemann. No acrimony, confrontation, or anathemas (much less duelling croziers) were experienced -- everyone seemed to be delighted to meet everyone else.

All participants expressed enthusiasm for repeating the experience in the Year 2000, and preliminary plans are being made to hold it in Chicago again -- since Chicago is a hub city, and airfares are reasonable.

It was decided not to return to the Congress Hotel -- parking, lodging, and food prices are very high there. Several retreat houses, as well as the former R.C. seminary site at Mundelein are being investigated.

Individual reactions to the Agape are being collected, and published on the ACU Sursum Corda! Page. As additional reactions come in, they will be added to the Reactions Page on the ACU Web Site.

A Press Release:

THE WEXFORD JURISDICTION:

A Clarificaton

Louisville, Kentucky: August 11, 1999;
For Immediate Release:

Information received by the Council of Old Roman Catholic Bishops indicates that one or more persons in Canada have obtained a Charter under the title ``The Old Roman Catholic Church in North America (Wexford Jurisdiction)''. The Council wishes to clearly state that a similarity in legal title in no way implies affiliation with The Old Roman Catholic Church in North America. Further, the Council states without equivocation that the person or persons involved with the `` Wexford Jurisdiction'' are not members of this Council and they are not associated with any Diocese or other Jurisdiction whose bishops constitute this Council.

Inspection of their published materials and online contents of web pages and the so-called ``Old Roman Catholic Discussion List'' fail to substantiate any claims to connection with the historic Old Roman Catholic Church or any understanding of its history, development, theology or praxis. In addition, there is absolutely no credible evidence of their claim to a special relationship with the Roman Catholic Church.

Editorial Comment:

The ACU finds such name shenannigans unfortunate and distasteful, but all too common. All Church Corporations need to have a name, but we can find or invent names that do not imply a false connection to other churches (who are not likely to appreciate it -- as the Press Release above indicates).
